Now a firm fixture on Bakewell's annual events calender. The Christmas Weekend event has grown in popularity and it is expected to attract many residents and visitors to the town. This year’s Christmas Weekend will coincide with the monthly Bakewell farmers market. A packed programme of live music and street entertainment continues throughout the weekend as well as Santa’s Grotto and a special Christmas market. A children's traditional carousel will operate throughout the weekend. Keep this weekend free and make a date to visit Bakewell. A lantern parade will start following the Christmas tree switch on, bring along your own lantern and join the parade, cash prizes for the best lanterns, 1st 2nd & 3rd places. Firework Display on the Showground - Saturday at 6pm with The Farmers Feast opening later and serving drinks & food. Peak FM will be broadcasting live at The Rutland Arms Hotel, 10am-2pm on Saturday. The giant puppets, last seen greeting the Olympic Torch, will be around town over the weekend. Traditional Christmas Markets with 40 stalls dotted around the town. Hartingtons Cookery School are planning to have a full programme over the whole weekend. They will have an authentic Italian Christmas Food Market within the School of Food on both Saturday and Sunday. Nonnas, who have a renowned Italian cafe/bar in both Chesterfield and Sheffield, will join Hartingtons to put on a "Pop up Mercato" selling pannetone, Italian Christmas delights, deli items, hampers, wines and beers. There will be two special Nonnas events taking place late morning and early afternoon (to be announced shortly) and mulled wine in the courtyard outside will add to the festive atmosphere. On Sunday we will have an artisan baker giving free breadmaking demos and selling artisan bread fresh from the oven and we will be holding a jam/fruit preserve competition over the weekend with the entries being judged by Bakewell's Mayor on Sunday with an artisan food course at Hartingtons up to the value of £135 as the prize! We will also unveil our programme of artisan food courses and gourmet food events for 2013 with lots of Christmas Weekend offers and a free prize draw to win a cookery course at our School of Food. Bakewell Old House Museum will be open on the 24th and 25th Nov 11am - 4pm for a Victorian Christmas. Their Tudor house will be sumptuously decorated. A feast for the eyes. Adults £3.50, Child £2. The Bakewell Book & Gift Shop will be hosting the Arabella Star Author of Augustus the Chatsworth Mouse to do a story time on both mornings over the weekend. The Traditional Organ Grinder will be around town over the weekend. Since Victorian times people from all walks of life have been thrilled by the sound of the Street Organ, this is how many people would have learned the most popular music of the day, being performed at the Music Halls and such places. The Old Original Pudding Shop will be in the festive spirit serving mulled wine,mince pies,jacket potatoes and hot roast pork sandwiches undercover on the heated patio at the rear of the shop. The National falconry School will be setting up at the bottom of Water Lane (as previous years) from 10 am to 6 pm where there will be about 8-10 different species of raptor (birds of prey and owls), some of them extremely rare. For a small charge, visitors will have the opportunity to have a photograph taken while holding one of our owls, or make a donation. All monies raised go towards looking after injured wild owls brought to us for rehabilitation. We release all such owls; all of the birds on display have been bred in captivity, and help us raise awareness of the plight of British raptors, as well as help us arise funds to help injured wild raptors. Freshfields Donkey Village will attending with a couple of there donkeys. In addition to the donkeys, they will bring sponsor forms and a folder with some of there donkey stories so that people can sponsor a donkey if they choose. Some items from the shop will be on sale to help raise funds. Due to unforseen circumstances the donkeys will not be attending. Locally based dance group, Well Heeled, will perform the energetic style of Appalachian dancing to the foot tapping rhythms of old time music.
